I really liked the idea of “two-way commenting.” I created a form where the students write the rough draft of their essay on the lines of the paper (link below), leaving room on the left for teacher comments. Once the student has turned in the essay, the teacher will write comments in the provided area leaving room below each comment for student responses. Students will be required to respond to each comment on the comment area before writing a revised version of their essay on traditional paper.

After our meeting, I really began thinking about my first steps those first days of school. You all really helped me think about some of the things I’ve not been doing, even though I know I should.
The first is getting back to reading…helping people access text that may not be one they want to read…to establish clear purposes for it, and making logical next-step assignmnets that move their reading to a more pertinant writing assignment.
The second is using examples that illustrate my expectations. It’s not that I don’t do this, I just need to do it more and with current work done by the kids sitting in the room. So I’m thinking about this stuff, and am working on taking action on these things.

Here is our blog.
It should be pretty easy and straight forward to use. If you have any trouble, let me know.
I hope that this becomes a compelling site that we can come back to frequently throughout this year!
